Dashain, the most significant and widely celebrated festival among Madheshis and Nepalese worldwide, is a time of immense joy, family reunions, and cultural traditions. Spanning 15 days, this festival honors Goddess Durga, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Traditions and Celebrations

The festival officially begins with Ghatasthapana, the first day, where barley seeds are planted in a sacred vessel to grow Jamara, a symbol of blessings and prosperity. As the days progress, temples dedicated to Goddess Durga are adorned with offerings, prayers, and rituals. Families gather to perform pujas, seeking divine protection and happiness.

One of the most anticipated days is Vijaya Dashami, when elders bless younger family members with Tika (a mixture of yogurt, rice, and vermillion) and Jamara, along with heartfelt wishes for success and well-being. This day embodies the spirit of unity, respect, and gratitude.

Throughout Dashain, people indulge in traditional feasts, prepare delicious delicacies, and enjoy festivities such as kite flying, playing swings (ping), and storytelling sessions about mythology and history. Children receive blessings and Dakshina (monetary gifts), adding to the joy of the occasion.
